 Let us remember who was the first canonized saint in the Church: the Good Thief. He “stole” Paradise at the last minute of his life: this is Grace. This is what God is like, even with us. Instead, those who seek thinking of their own merits fail; those who humbly entrust themselves to the Father’s mercy, rather than being last — like the Good Thief — find themselves first. It housed many IRA prisoners' Maidstone Prison is one of the oldest penal institutions in the United Kingdom, having been in operation for over 200 years. Originally serving as a  county jail ,  Maidstone  was converted to a prison during the 1740s. During his visits to the prison, reformer  John Howard  reported poor living conditions at the prison including overcrowding and poor ventilation. It can be difficult and upsetting to visit someone you care about in prison. In more than 60 prisons across England & Wales, Pact staff and volunteers are there to welcome children and families arriving to visit loved ones inside. Many will have had a long journey. Some will be anxious about how their loved one is coping, or about an uncomfortable conversation they need to have with them when they meet in the Visits Hall.
